Haven House is a short-term homeless shelter for residents of Clearfield, Elk, and Jefferson Counties. Haven House is a tax exempt, nonprofit corporation governed by a board of local citizens.
How long has Haven House been in operation?
Haven House opened its doors and began operation in November of 2006.
Where is Haven House located?
Haven House is located in a DuBois residential neighborhood. It is on a bus route and is within walking distance of employment services.
How does one gain admission to Haven House?
By referral from social service agencies, police, hospitals, and V A. Background checks are preformed before accepting guests. Those charged with crimes of violence, sexual or physical abuse, or are active addicts are not accepted.
What about the staffing?
Haven House is staffed and secured 24 hours a day.
How many people typically occupy Haven House at any given time?
Occupancy varies from day to day but averages over 70%. Guests of the Haven House who are employable continue to find employment in an average of 30 days. Other guests are guided through the social services safety net.
How many people has Haven House served?
Since inception, over 800 people have been served by Haven House. That number equates to over 22,000 nights slept in our beds and over 44,000 meals served 18% of Haven House guests are children.
How is Haven House Financed
The nature of the Haven House mission precludes generating funds from operations. It is not uncommon for guests to arrive with all they own in a plastic bag. This past year, Haven House's budget was $91,000. As a nonprofit corporation, Haven House relies heavily on donations.
